The Canon EF 28-135mm f/3.5-5.6 IS USM standard zoom lens features an Image Stabilizer and high zoom ratio. With the Image Stabilizer turned on, you can obtain sharp, natural-looking pictures in dim lighting without using flash or a tripod. Very handy for places where flash is prohibited. The lens uses ring-type USM for swift, silent autofocus and full-time manual focus. Its closest focusing distance is 20 in. (50cm).

If you only have one lens, make it this one Bottom line: The Canon EF 28-135mm f/3.5-5.6 IS USM lens is great “walk around” standard zoom lens for full frame cameras such as the Canon 5D. It also makes very nice short telephoto zoom lens for APS-C cameras like the 60D or Rebel cameras, with an equivalent range of 45-208mm due to the crop factor. The first standard zoom lens I had was the “kit lens” that came with the first SLR camera I owned (the quirky Canon EOS IX Lite, that included the EF-S 22-55mm lens), which served me well as I transitioned through a few cameras including digital SLRs. When it came time to replace that lens, I went for this Canon EF 28-135mm lens. This was a step up from the older lens in every way.Overall, the lens does a little bit of everything, and does it better than most lenses on the market. Sure, there are better lenses for wide angle shots, or ones with more telephoto, or those that do macro shots better. There are lenses that have better sharpness,…
Excellent all-rounder, Stellar replacement for the 18-55 kit lens I’ve used this lens for a few weeks and am very pleased with it. There are a LOT of very long and thorough reviews here on amazon so I don’t think I can add much to the discussion. Take some time to read the reviews, especially the complaints, and see if it matches up with your goals.A couple small notes: – The manual focus can be adjusted during AF mode. – The IS function works nice (this is a large portion of the lens’ cost) but you have to know when to use it and when to disable it. – The only thing I was worried about when buying was the “piston design” whereby the inside of the lens assembly is slide-able in and out of the SLR body. I can see how this might promote air circulation in and out of the camera, which may require cleaning in the future, but this shouldn’t be a huge concern. – Smaller SLR bodies might feel a little unbalanced with this pule of glass, but hey what are you gonna do.Bottomline, this lens is a great…
