International Version, NO Warranty This is the international version of the lens, so it is exactly the same as the US version but does not have a warranty. I do not mind saving a few bucks, but they should state that in the listing. The lens itself is great, no complaints, this is the first lens any new DSLR owner should get. My copy had a tiny amount of front focus, but was well within acceptable limits. Takes very nice photos, and a nice upgrade over the previous IS II.

I know why they call it a “nifty fifty” I purchased this for a martial arts demo shoot in front of green-screen (amateur experiment, I’m a video guy). Of course, this was the entry-level “taste” of what good lenses can do for you. Just like my first taste of good single-malt scotch ruined cheap booze for me, I can never go back to kit lenses or zooms after this. For anyone ready to move past their kits, this is an inexpensive way to experience better glass. You won’t go back either. Just be wary of too wide aperture and where you are focused. You can lose that point quickly if your subject moves a lot (like a karate shoot) but you will love what you can do with less mobile subjects when the background melts away yet their flyaway hairs are still sharp.

A nice reunion I use to have one of these back when they cost about $50, had noisy mechanical autofocus and felt pretty cheap from a materials standpoint. This new lens is a bit more than double that price, has quiet mechanisms and feels much more substantial! Glass quality is evolved and refined! Worth every penny!
